How We Met

I took a job at Lipscomb in the summer of 2019 and was shortly introduced to a beautiful Graduate Assistant - Thabile Tshatedi. I planned on enrolling in an MBA program, and I was torn between a few options. God definitely directed my path, and I saw a familiar graduate assistant on my first day of orientation.

Thabile caught my eye from the start, and through time in class and events we participated in as a cohort, I was drawn to her intelligence, humor, drive, contagious joy, faith, and her willingness to always help people.

In late October, I found an excuse to get her phone number. She was responsible for setting up food for graduate students, and I was running late and wanted her to save a plate for me. I could've easily asked a co-worker, but I saw this as my chance to get her number and eventually take my shot. ("You miss 100% of the shots you don't take." - Wayne Gretzky -- Michael Scott)

I challenged her to a tennis match and said the loser buys the other one drinks. She thought it was a serious challenge, until I eventually had to spell it out for her that I was trying to ask her out on a date.

Our first official date was at The Melting Pot on November 30th. She still doesn't believe me, but I knew she was the one from the very beginning.

How He Proposed

The Proposal was a day, that turned into a month of surprises.

On February 13th, my roommates organized a nail date for the three of us. Davis was behind the planning of the date, and I didn’t know that at the time.

On February 14th, (Valentine's Day) he picked me up and told me we had a full day of activities, and he had me guess the theme of the day. The first hint was breakfast at my favorite restaurant, First Watch. I then knew the theme was “Our Firsts."

Unfortunately, as we finished our breakfast, it started snowing, so we had to cancel our day of activities because the roads were bad. When the check came, Davis went to the bathroom and took FOREVER. I assumed he had an upset stomach and couldn’t wait until he got back home. (Little did I know, he was texting all of our friends and family to update them on having to cancel the proposal plans.)

When he finally came back to the table and said we couldn't carry on with the day, he was a little emotional. I was a little taken aback and reassured him it wasn’t a big deal that our day was cancelled. Anyway, he insisted on rescheduling our day full of surprises. We rescheduled for March 14th.

On March 13th, his sister Lauren texted me and asked to meet up with her because she had forgotten to give me my birthday gift. She suggested we just get our nails done because she had a wedding the next day (ALL LIES).

The morning of March 14th began again at First Watch. Our second stop was Bridgestone Arena where the Nashville Predators play (ice hockey). This is where Davis, our classmates, and I had a great time watching ice hockey and where our friendship turned into a potential relationship. Next, was The Melting Pot, the location of our first date, and where we walked around downtown.

Our fourth stop was our first and favorite hiking trail called Hidden Lake. As we always do, at the end of the hike we pray and give God thanks for His beautiful creation. This time, Davis insisted on praying, and at the end of the prayer he said, “Lord, help her say yes to this question I am about to ask,” and he got down on one knee. I thought I was going to pass out! I WAS SHOCKED! I, of course, said yes, and we hugged. Then out of nowhere a photographer came out of the bushes!

We got back in the car, and Davis said we had one more stop, but that it was no big deal and first we needed to change outfits since we were a little muddy. We were heading towards Lipscomb, and he said we could just change at Lipscomb because Suzanne (his boss) wanted him to get something from the break room. We changed and headed upstairs to the break room. When he opened the door, I saw the break room (another first - where we first met) was decorated in the most beautiful way. There were pictures of all our experiences over the past year and a half, candles, flowers, and snacks. Through one door Davis’s family walked in, and through another our professors and mentors came in to celebrate this special moment.

Afterwards, he said there was one more surprise, and he took me outside to the parking area, where he had planned a drive through celebration with more friends and family.

It was the most incredible day!

How We Like to Spend Our Time Together

We both love to spend quality time together in nature, appreciating God's beautiful and diverse creation. Whether it's fishing, hiking a glacier in Alaska, witnessing the mighty Victoria Falls, taking an elephant-back safari, spending time on the water in our small boat, going on walks, or any other outdoor activities, we soak in every special moment together in God's handiwork.

We love watching and playing sports, trying new restaurants, worshipping to Maverick City Music, watching movies (yes, she suffered through all of the Star Wars movies at my request), competing with each other, celebrating holidays, and going on adventures to new places (after our trip to Alaska, we set a goal to visit all of the 61 US National Parks).
